Rotator cuff tears are a common injury among athletes, especially those who play baseball, tennis, and other throwing and racquet-based sports that use weight. While some cuff tears can be treated with rest and physical therapy, others may require steroid injections or surgical treatment. Some rotator cuff injuries may benefit from physical therapy and strengthening exercise. Severe injuries, however, will require rest and possibly surgery. Working with your doctor and physical therapist, you may be able to heal your rotator cuff and eventually return to normal function.
