Researchers have discovered that women actually prefer higher room temperatures than men. However, maybe it should be less about our personal choices. It’s better to keep the ideal temperature for each room in mind, depending on the activity we or our family members are taking part in.
With that in mind, we at Bhaskar Health looked into 7 different situations and gathered some answers for you.
1. The ideal temperature to sleep in
Sleep is crucial for your body to function well, and room temperature plays an important part. Our body heat naturally decreases while we’re asleep, and because of that, the ideal temperature of your room should be between 60ºF and 67ºF (15ºC and 19ºC).
2. The ideal temperature to exercise in
The brain loves when we exercise. It helps you to become more alert, awake, and focused. Workout temperature preferences vary from person to person, but most people perform and feel their best when they work out indoors at a moderate temperature of around 68ºF to 72ºF (20ºC to 22ºC).
3. The ideal temperature to study in
Productivity is important, and good study skills can help increase your confidence, competence, as well as self-esteem. Warmer temperatures can make you feel tired and sleepy, and that’s why it’s suggested to keep your room somewhere between 70ºF and 77ºF (21ºC and 25ºC) while studying and being productive.
4. The ideal temperature for babies
Because babies can’t tell us how they’re feeling, it’s vital to make sure they’re at a comfortable temperature — not too warm or too cold. Try to keep the room mild and cozy, between68ºF and 72ºF (20°C and 22°C).
5. The ideal temperature for pets
The ideal temperature for your pets depends on various factors, including breed, size, and health conditions. Smaller pets tend to get cold faster, while larger ones can stay warm for longer. Before we leave the house, it’s a good idea to make sure the temperature is okay for our pets. During the summer, don’t set the temperature any higher than 80ºF to 82ºF (26ºC to 27ºC). As for winter, 69ºF to 72ºF (20ºC to 22ºC) is a good range.
6. The ideal room temperature to work in
The average person spends about 90,000 hours at work during their lifetime. In 2015, a survey revealed that 42% of office workers said their environment was too warm during the summer, and the other 56% said their offices were too cold in the winter. The optimal temperature seems to be 75ºF (24ºC) for both male and females, so keep an eye on the office thermostat.
7. The ideal temperature for seniors
For the elderly, extreme temperatures can be problematic. Because they might have trouble regulating their body heat, spending a lot of time in a room that is either too hot or too cold can have a negative impact on their well-being. It’s best to keep the thermostat set to a safe temperature, between 68ºF and 74ºF (20ºC and 23ºC).
